The Kerem Tunnel is the first bike tunnel in Israel and was officially opened in the year 2000 as a part of the Jerusalem Ring Path, a 42-kilometer cycle path that runs around the capital.

The tunnel connects Nahal Refaim and Emek Motza. Its southern entrance is located in Refaim Park, below Ein Laban, and the northern entrance is in Nahal Ein Kerem, about one kilometer away close to the Kerem junction. The 2.1-kilometer long tunnel was officially opened on Thursday by Jerusalem and the heritage minister Ze’evElkin and Mayor Moshe Lion. Avi Baleshnikov of Gihon the chairman of Gihon and a plethora of other cyclists also attended.

Elkin, whose ministry together with the Jerusalem Municipality spearheaded the project, explained that his ministry “invests hundreds of millions of shekels every year to develop all aspects of Jerusalem’s tourism and in the creation of exciting activities and ventures that connect the glorious historical past of our capital city’s eternal past to its future… I invite all cyclists to take a trip and enjoy the new, well-maintained and modern route which overlooks Old Jerusalem.
