Federico Gutierrez is an ex-mayor of Medellin. He was born in the city in 1974. As a councilor for the local area, Gutierrez was a Municipal Youth Councilor and as a Municipal Planning Councilor in Medellin since 2003. Fico Gutierrez is a Civil Engineer by profession from the University of Medellin has a Specialization Degree in Senior Management from the Pontifical Bolivarian University and one in Political Science.
Federico Gutierrez did not just focus on politics in his career. In reality the time he worked as a consultant for the HGI Consultores company and a Resident Engineering at the Company Vifasa S.A. A glass and construction company. He is also a staunch advocate for his family. Fico Gutierrez is married and has two children.
As Fico Gutierrez supported the city’s mayorship of Sergio Fajardo and later that of Alonso Salazar. Fico Gutierrez decided to change his mind and joined the Mayor’s Office of Medellin in the year 2015. But, as with all mayors who were faced with the Hidroituango project, he had controversy due to corruption. Daniel Coronell published an investigation that found him to be in the wrong for corruption and storing his money at tax havens.
In actuality, he has confronted the former mayors who he backed and has recently said “I am in solidarity with those who are included in the report, as I don’t believe that one makes this kind of decision in order to ensure that a diversion tunnel will fall and one is in solidarity , and what certain sectors do is attacked by the political strategy”.
A new contest for the presidency
In the fall of 2021, the so called Experience coalition was created and later changed into the Team for Colombia. Federico Gutierrez, being the Center right coalition, won the election. Paola, a Democratic Center representative, was able to support the candidate for an additional term.
On several occasions he reiterated his belief that his model of administration is based on public management by the people. He also said that politics is a vocation. Gustavo Petro was second in voting, which means that ‘Fico’ (as his preferred name for himself) will be Antioquia’s representative for the right.
