Federico Gutierrez won the official candidacy of center-right. With over 1.75 million votes, the former Medellin mayor of Medellin was able reach the nomination.
Fico Gutierrez is an ex-mayor of Medellin. He was born in the city in 1974. As a local councilor Gutierrez has served as Municipal Youth Councilor as well as Municipal Planning Councilor in Medellin from 2003. Gutierrez is who is a Civil Engineer by profession at the University of Medellin, holds a Specialization degree in senior management from the Pontifical Bolivarian University and one in Political Science.
Federico Gutierrez was not only a political figure during his professional career. He also worked as a Consultant at HGI Consultores as well as a Resident engineer for Company Vifasa S.A. (a glass and construction firm). In his private life, he defends his family and claims that it is of the highest importance; he is married and has two kids.
As a council member, Sergio Fajardo was his supporter. Later, Alonso Salazar was his. He achieved his goal by getting into the Mayor’s Office of Medellin. Like other mayors in the Hidroituango projects the mayor was affected by corruption. He was also involved in the Panama Papers investigation by Daniel Coronell for keeping his cash in tax havens, and also for corruption.
He has confronted some the former mayors he backed and has recently said that “I have been in solidarity with those who are included in this report because I don’t think someone makes such a determination to let a tunnel fall, and one is in solidarity, and what some sectors do, is an attack by a political strategy.”
