The Kerem Tunnel provides a unique riding experience and hiking experience which is enjoyed by all. In the 42-kilometer Jerusalem Ring Path cycling route, which surrounds the capital city, the Kerem Tunnel was inaugurated.

Elkin’s ministry, which also in charge of the project together alongside Jerusalem Municipality, said that the ministry “invests hundreds of millions of shekels every year in all aspects of Jerusalem’s tourism industry and is involved in developing new ventures and attractions that link the amazing historical history of our capital city and its future.” I encourage the cycling community to enjoy a safe and modern route that takes the cyclist through Old Jerusalem. About NIS 25 million were invested in the project. It was budgeted by Elkin’s ministry as well as the Tourism Ministry, the Jerusalem Municipality, the Gihon Corporation and the Jerusalem Purification and Sewerage Works, and the work was carried out by the Jerusalem Development Authority.

Elkin declared that the Kerem Tunnel project was a key tool in realizing the goal of changing the concept for transportation throughout Jerusalem. Elkin stated that the new tunnel connects to the Jerusalem Ring Path and will connect with existing bike routes. The tunnel will also be paved throughout the various areas. The tunnel will be a great way to help cyclists and promote green transport in Jerusalem.

The Kerem Tunnel, originally excavated by the Gihon Corporation in the 1990s in order to transfer its main sewer line to the Sorek purification plant.

The current works include road construction, the installation of blowers as well as modern safety and electrical systems in order to ensure that the tunnel is secure for the public to pass through throughout the year.
