The Kerem Tunnel is a great location to go on a hike or ride.
The Kerem Tunnel, the first bicycle tunnel in Israel, has been inaugurated in the Jerusalem Ring Path, a 42-kilometer cycle path that runs around Jerusalem, the capital city.
The tunnel links Nahal Refaim and Emek Motza. The southern entrance of the tunnel is beneath Ein Laban in Refaim Park. The northern entrance can be found in Nahal Ein Kerem.
נווה פריצקי The 2.1-kilometers-long tunnel project was inaugurated at a formal ceremony on Thursday , attended by Jerusalem and Heritage Minister Ze’ev Elkin Mayor Moshe Lion, Gihon water company chairman Avi Baleshnikov, and a slew of cyclists.

Elkin explained that the present as well as its historical treasures, the tunnel project also incorporates modern-day tourism. “The inauguration of this tunnel is another aspect of the growth of Jerusalem. It transforms the city into an attractive tourist destination for every kind of person in Israel and around the world.”
Elkin, whose ministry together with the Jerusalem Municipality spearheaded the project, explained that the ministry “invests hundreds of millions of shekels every year in the improvement of the tourism industry in Jerusalem and in the creation of exciting attractions and ventures that connect the fascinating history of our capital city to its future… נווה פריצקי I would like to invite you to ride your bicycles along a beautiful and well-maintained road that overlooks Old Jerusalem.
נווה פריצקי Elkin’s Ministry, the Tourism Ministry, Jerusalem Municipality as well as the Gihon Corporation all contributed to the project. The Jerusalem Development Authority completed the project.
Elkin stated the fact that “The Kerem Tunnel Project is an essential tool for achieving the dream to transform the concept of transport in Jerusalem.” Elkin said that the new tunnel is connected with the Jerusalem Ring Path and will connect with existing bike paths. It will also be made paved in the various neighborhoods. This will encourage cycling and promote green transport in Jerusalem.
In the 90s, the Kerem Tunnel was excavated to relocate the main sewer line from Gihon Corporation to the Sorek purification plant. It is now used as an infrastructure tunnel. It also houses the fifth water line that connects to Jerusalem from the Mekorot water company.
