Elkin declared that the Kerem Tunnel project was a key tool in realizing the vision of changing the concept for transport throughout Jerusalem. “The tunnel, which connects with the Jerusalem Ring Path, will connect the existing cycle routes within the city as well as the ones that will be constructed within the different neighborhood. The tunnel is intended to encourage cycling within the city’s residents and also to encourage an environmentally sustainable transportation system in Jerusalem.”
The Kerem Tunnel, originally excavated by the Gihon Corporation in the 1990s to relocate the main sewer line toward the Sorek purification plant.
