As part of the 42-kilometer Jerusalem Ring Path cycling route that runs around the capital city, the Kerem Tunnel was inaugurated.

Elkin, who heads the project along with Jerusalem Municipality said that his ministry invests millions of dollars in Jerusalem’s tourism development and the development of innovative activities and ventures that tie the rich history of Jerusalem to its future. Elkin declared that the Kerem Tunnel project was a crucial element in achieving the goal of shifting the idea of transportation throughout Jerusalem. Elkin stated that the new tunnel is connected to the Jerusalem Ring Path and will link with existing bike routes. It will also be paved throughout the various areas. This will increase cycling and encourage green transportation in the capital.
The Kerem Tunnel, originally excavated by the Gihon Corporation in the 1990s in order to transfer its main sewer line towards Sorek’s purification plant.
