As part of the 42-kilometer Jerusalem Ring Path cycling route, which surrounds the capital city, the Kerem Tunnel was inaugurated.

The 2.1-kilometer-long tunnel was officially opened by Jerusalem’s Heritage Minister Zeev Elkin. It was also attended by Mayor Moshelion, Avi Balehnikov, Gihon Water Company chairman, as well as hundreds of cyclists.

Elkin, who heads the project in conjunction with Jerusalem Municipality said that his ministry invests hundreds of millions in Jerusalem’s tourism development and in the creation innovative tourist attractions and ventures that connect the glorious past of Jerusalem to the future. Around NIS 25 million were invested in the project, financed by Elkin’s ministry The Tourism Ministry, the Jerusalem Municipality, the Gihon Corporation and the Jerusalem Purification and Sewerage Works, as well as the work done by the Jerusalem Development Authority.

The Kerem Tunnel provides access to exclusive recreation spots, including Ein Kerem neighbourhood, the biblical aquarium and zoo , as also the historical natural springs Ein Haniyeh, Ein Laban Ein Laban, and Ein Haniyeh.
