The Kerem Tunnel, the first bicycle tunnel in Israel, has been inaugurated in the Jerusalem Ring Path, a 42-kilometer cycle route that circles Jerusalem, the capital city.

Elkin declared that the Kerem Tunnel project was a crucial element in achieving the vision of changing the concept for transport throughout Jerusalem. Elkin explained that the proposed tunnel connects with the Jerusalem Ring Path and will link with existing bike routes. It will also be paved throughout its different neighborhoods. The tunnel will be a great way to increase cycling and encourage green transport in Jerusalem.

The Kerem Tunnel was first excavated in the late 1990s to relocate the main sewer line of the Gihon Corporation toward the purification plant in Sorek, which is located to the west of the city. It is currently being used as an infrastructure tunnel that also includes the fifth water line that connects to Jerusalem from the Mekorot water company.
