The Kerem Tunnel is a great location to go on a hike or ride.
In the 42-kilometer Jerusalem Ring Path cycling route that runs around the capital city, the Kerem Tunnel was inaugurated.
It connects Nahal Refaim to Emek Motza. The tunnel’s southern entry point can be found in Refaim Park below Ein Laban. The northern entrance is in Nahal Ein Kerem about half a km away from the Kerem junction.
Inauguration of the tunnel that is 2.1 kilometers long was held in Jerusalem and Heritage Minister Ze’ev Elkin Mayor Moshelion, Avi Baleshnikov (Gihon water company chairman) along with hundreds of cyclists.

Elkin said that the present tourist industry is a part of Jerusalem’s historic treasures and incorporates modern day tourism. “The launch of the tunnel project is another part of the development of Jerusalem as a city. Jerusalem and its transformation into a desirable tourist city for all types of people throughout Israel and throughout the world.”
נווה פריצקי Elkin, whose ministry together with the Jerusalem Municipality spearheaded the project, said the ministry “invests hundreds of millions of shekels each year to develop all aspects of Jerusalem’s tourism and the development of exciting tourist attractions and ventures that link the fascinating history of our capital city to the future of Jerusalem… I invite all cyclists to take a trip and enjoy the new, well-maintained and modern route which overlooks Old Jerusalem.

Elkin said, “The Kerem Tunnel project will be a central instrument in achieving our goal to change the way transportation is conducted in Jerusalem.” “The new tunnel that connects to the Jerusalem Ring Path will join existing bicycle paths and those that will paved in its areas. It’s designed to promote biking among the residents of Jerusalem and encourage the green transport revolution in the capital.”
The Kerem Tunnel, originally excavated by the Gihon Corporation in the 1990s in order to move its main sewer line towards Sorek’s purification plant.

The current work includes road construction, installation blowers and advanced safety systems to ensure that the tunnel is safe for everyone to use during the entire year.
The Kerem Tunnel gives you access to many places to relax, including Ein Kerem Neighborhood, the Biblical Zoo and Aquarium as well historic natural springs Ein Haniyeh or Ein Laban.
