The Kerem Tunnel, Israel’s newest cycle tunnel, is opened as part a 42-kilometer cycle route that circles the capital.

The tunnel’s southern entrance can be found within Refaim Park below Ein Laban. The northern entrance can be found in Nahal Ein Kerem about half one kilometer away from the Kerem junction.
On Thursday, Jerusalem and Heritage Minister Zeev Elkin, Mayor Michael, Avi Baleshnikov, Gihon chairman, and hundreds of cyclists participated in a ceremony to inaugurate the tunnel’s 2.1-kilometer-long length.

נווה פריצקי Elkin stressed that “The Kerem Tunnel Project is the central instrument to achieve the goal to redefine the idea of transportation throughout Jerusalem.” Elkin stated that the new tunnel will connect with the Jerusalem Ring Path and will link with existing bike paths. It will also be paved in its different areas. It will also help cyclists and promote green transport in Jerusalem.
In the 90s, in the 1990s, Kerem Tunnel was excavated to transfer the main sewer line from Gihon Corporation to the Sorek purification plant. It is currently used for infrastructure purposes and is also home to the fifth water line that connects to Jerusalem by the Mekorot water company.

Road construction, installation and testing of safety and electrical systems are just some of the ongoing projects to make the tunnel safer for all year.
The Kerem Tunnel also allows access to unique recreation sites – including the Ein Kerem neighborhood, the biblical zoo and aquarium along with the historic natural springs in Ein Laban and Ein Haniyeh.
