The Kerem Tunnel provides a unique adventure in hiking and riding that is to be enjoyed by everyone.
The Kerem Tunnel is the first cycle tunnel in Israel and was officially opened in the year 2000 as a part of the Jerusalem Ring Path, a 42-kilometer cycling route around the capital.
The tunnel connects the path between Nahal Refaim and Emek Motza. The southern entrance of the tunnel is beneath Ein Laban in Refaim Park. The northern entrance is found in Nahal Ein Kerem.
The opening ceremony of the tunnel that is 2.1 kilometers long was held in Jerusalem and the Heritage Minister Ze’ev Elkin Mayor Moshelion, Avi Baleshnikov (Gihon water company chairman of the company) and hundreds more cyclists.

Elkin’s Ministry, the Tourism Ministry, Jerusalem Municipality, and the Gihon Corporation all contributed to the project. The Jerusalem Development Authority completed the work.

The Kerem Tunnel first was excavated in the 1990s to create an important sewer line for the Gihon Corporation towards Sorek. It is currently being utilized as an infrastructure tunnel which includes the fifth waterline to Jerusalem from the Mekorot water corporation.

The work currently in progress includes road construction, the installation of blowers as well as modern security and electrical systems to ensure the tunnel is safe for pedestrians to travel through all year round.
The Kerem Tunnel also allows access to unique recreation sites such as the Ein Kerem neighborhood, the biblical zoo and aquarium, and the historical natural springs in Ein Laban and Ein Haniyeh.
