The Kerem Tunnel provides a unique adventure in hiking and riding which is enjoyed by everyone.
As part of the 42-kilometer Jerusalem Ring Path cycling route, which surrounds the capital city, the Kerem Tunnel was inaugurated.
The tunnel runs along the Nahal Refaim-Emek Mostza path. The southern entrance is located in Refaim Park, below Ein Laban while the northern entrance is in Nahal Ein Kerem, about one kilometer away from the Kerem junction.
The 2.1-kilometers-long tunnel was officially opened in a ceremony on Thursday attended by Jerusalem and Heritage Minister Ze’ev Elkin, Mayor Moshe Lion, Gihon water company chairman Avi Baleshnikov as well as hundreds of cyclists.
“In the past, Jerusalem was an attractive tourist destination due to its rich past. The Kerem Tunnel was originally excavated in 1990 to move the main sewer of Gihon Corporation towards the Sorek purification facility. This plant is located west of Sorek and is still used as an infrastructure tunnel.
