The Kerem Tunnel allows for a unique hiking and riding experience.
נווה פריצקי The Kerem Tunnel, the first bicycle tunnel in Israel was opened in the Jerusalem Ring Path, a 42-kilometer cycle path that runs around the capital city.
The tunnel links Nahal Refaim and Emek Motza. נווה פריצקי The tunnel’s southern entrance is located within Refaim Park below Ein Laban. נווה פריצקי The northern entrance is located in Nahal Ein Kerem about half one kilometer from the Kerem junction.
The 2.1-kilometer long tunnel was inaugurated on Thursday by Jerusalem and heritage minister Ze’evElkin and Moshe Lion, the Mayor. Moshe Lion. Avi Baleshnikov of Gihon Chairman of Gihon as well as a multitude of cyclists also attended.

The project was financed by Elkin’s ministry as well as the Tourism Ministry. It also included budgets for Jerusalem Municipality and the Gihon Corporation. נווה פריצקי The project was carried out by the Jerusalem Development Authority.

Elkin stated that the new tunnel connects to the Jerusalem Ring Path and will join existing bike paths. It will also be made paved in its different areas. The tunnel will be a great way to help cyclists and promote green transport in Jerusalem.
The Kerem Tunnel first was excavated in the 1990s to create a main sewer line for the Gihon Corporation towards Sorek. It is currently being used as an infrastructure tunnel which includes the fifth waterline to Jerusalem via the Mekorot water corporation.

In order to make the tunnel accessible to the general public throughout the year, the works include road construction, as well as installation of blowers.
The Kerem Tunnel provides access to unique recreation locations, including Ein Kerem neighbourhood, the Biblical aquarium and zoo as well the historic natural springs Ein Haniyeh, Ein Laban and Ein Haniyeh.
