The Kerem Tunnel, the first cycle tunnel in Israel, has been inaugurated in the Jerusalem Ring Path, a 42-kilometer cycling route that surrounds the capital city.

Elkin stated that the Kerem Tunnel project was a important tool to realize the goal of altering the way of transportation throughout Jerusalem. Elkin said that the new tunnel is connected to the Jerusalem Ring Path and will link with existing bike paths. The tunnel will also be paved throughout the various areas. It will also encourage cycling and promote green transportation in the capital.
In the late 1990s in the 1990s, the Kerem Tunnel was excavated to relocate the main sewer line from Gihon Corporation to the Sorek purification plant. It is now utilized for infrastructure purposes.
