The tunnel links the paths between Nahal Refaim and Emek Motza. Its southern entrance is within Refaim Park under Ein Laban. The northern entrance, Nahal Ein Kerem, is about half a kilometer away from the Nahal Ein Kerem junction.
The 2.1-kilometers-long tunnel project was inaugurated during a celebration on Thursday attended by Jerusalem and Heritage Minister Ze’evElkin, Mayor Moshe Lion, Gihon water company chairman Avi Baleshnikov, and a slew of cyclists.
“In the past, Jerusalem was an attractive city for tourists due to its rich past. In the present, in addition to its historical treasures it also has modern-day tourism,” Elkin said. “The inauguration (of the tunnel) is a further step in the expansion of Jerusalem, and its transformation into a desirable tourist destination for all kinds of people throughout Israel as well as across the world.”
Elkin, who heads the project together with Jerusalem Municipality said that his ministry invests millions of dollars in the city’s tourism growth and the development of innovative tourist attractions and ventures that connect the rich history of Jerusalem to its future.
