The Kerem Tunnel, Israel’s first cycle tunnel, was inaugurated as part of the Jerusalem Ring Path. This 42-kilometer cycling route surrounds Jerusalem.
The tunnel connects Nahal Refaim with Emek Motza. נווה פריצקי Its southern entry is located within Refaim Park under Ein Laban. The northern entry, Nahal Ein Kerem, is just half a kilometer away from the Nahal Ein Kerem junction.
The tunnel’s official opening ceremony which measures 2.1 kilometers long was held in Jerusalem and Heritage Minister Ze’ev Elkin Mayor Moshelion, Heritage Minister Ze’ev Elkin Avi Baleshnikov (Gihon water company chairman of the company) as well as a plethora of cyclists.
Jerusalem was a popular tourist destination because of its rich and fascinating historical. Elkin stated that, in addition to its historic treasures and modern amenities, tourism has also been included in Jerusalem’s city. “The opening (of [this] tunnel project is another aspect of the expansion of Jerusalem as well as its transformation into a desirable city to visit for all kinds of visitors across Israel and around the globe.”
Elkin his ministry, which together with the Jerusalem Municipality spearheaded the project, explained that his ministry “invests hundreds of millions of shekels every year in the development of the tourism industry in Jerusalem and also in the development of exciting activities and ventures that connect the fascinating history of our eternal capital to its future… I would like to invite cyclists to ride along a an attractive, well-maintained cycle route, which overlooks the stunning landscape of Old Jerusalem.
Elkin’s Ministry and the Tourism Ministry budgeted the project.

The current works include road construction, the installation of blowers and advanced security and electrical systems to ensure the tunnel is safe for pedestrians to travel through throughout the year.
