The Kerem Tunnel, Israel’s newest cycle tunnel, is opened as part a 42-kilometer cycle route that runs through the capital.

The tunnel links Nahal Refaim and Emek Motza. It is located in southern Israel located in Refaim Park. Ein Laban is the closest. Nahal Ein Kerem is the northern entrance.

The 2.1-kilometer-long tunnel was officially inaugurated by Jerusalem’s Heritage Minister ZeevElkin. It was also attended by Mayor Moshelion, Avi Balehnikov, Gihon Water Company Chairman, and many cyclists.

Elkin’s Ministry Elkin’s Ministry Tourism Ministry, Jerusalem Municipality as well as the Gihon Corporation all contributed to the project. The Jerusalem Development Authority completed the project.

Elkin stated that the Kerem Tunnel project is an essential tool for achieving the idea to transform the idea of transportation throughout Jerusalem. “The tunnel is set to connect to the Jerusalem Ring Path. It will be connected to the many bicycle paths that are already within the city. They will be laid throughout the city’s diverse neighborhoods. The aim is to promote cycling among residents of Jerusalem.

The Kerem Tunnel was originally excavated in 1990 in order to transfer the main sewer of Gihon Corporation towards the Sorek purification facility. This plant is west of Sorek and is used today as an infrastructure tunnel.
