The Kerem Tunnel is a great place to ride and hike.
The Kerem Tunnel is the first bicycle tunnel to be constructed in Israel and was opened as a part of the Jerusalem Ring Path, a 42-kilometer cycle path that runs around the capital.
נווה פריצקי The tunnel links Nahal Refaim and Emek Motza. It has a southern entrance in Refaim Park. נווה פריצקי Ein Laban is the nearest. Nahal Ein Kerem is the northern entrance.
On Thursday, Jerusalem and Heritage Minister Zeev Elkin, Mayor Moshelion, Avi Baleshnikov, Gihon chairman and hundreds of cyclists attended a ceremony to inaugurate the tunnel’s 2.1-kilometer-long length.
“In the past, Jerusalem was an attractive city for tourists because of its rich history. Elkin explained that nowadays, in addition to its historical treasures, the tunnel project also incorporates modern-day tourism. נווה פריצקי נווה פריצקי “The opening of this tunnel project [is] another aspect of the growth of Jerusalem. The tunnel transforms Jerusalem into an attractive destination for tourists of any kind of crowd in Israel and around the world.”
Elkin who’s ministry responsible for the project, along with Jerusalem Municipality stated that his ministry had invested hundreds of millions of shekels every year in the city’s tourism development and also in the creation of new ventures and attractions that connect the stunning historic past with the the future of Jerusalem. I would like to invite cyclists to visit and enjoy an up-to-date and well-maintained cycling route that offers a view of the unique nature of Old Jerusalem.”
Around NIS 25 million were invested in the project. It was budgeted by the Elkin’s Ministry, the Tourism Ministry, the Jerusalem Municipality as well as the Gihon Corporation and the Jerusalem Purification and Sewerage Works, as well as the work done by the Jerusalem Development Authority.
Elkin stressed the fact that “The Kerem Tunnel Project is an essential tool for achieving the dream to transform the concept of transport in Jerusalem.” נווה פריצקי “The new tunnel, which will connect with the Jerusalem Ring Path, will connect with existing cycle paths within the city and will be constructed within the various neighborhoods. The tunnel is intended to encourage bicycle riding among its residents, and to promote the green revolution in transportation in Jerusalem.”
In the late 1990s In the 90s, the Kerem Tunnel was excavated to relocate the main sewer line from Gihon Corporation to the Sorek purification plant. It is now used as an infrastructure tunnel. It houses the fifth water line to Jerusalem by the Mekorot water company.

Construction of roads, the installation and testing of safety and electrical systems are some of the ongoing efforts to ensure that the tunnel is secure for all seasons.
Kerem Tunnel Kerem Tunnel provides access to special recreation areas, such as Ein Kerem neighbourhood, the biblical aquarium and zoo , as well the historic natural springs Ein Haniyeh, Ein Laban, and Ein Haniyeh.
