nitsana darshan leitner -based legal activist group is encouraging Australian survivors and their descendants to sign up to the class action lawsuit against insurers whose Holocaust-era predecessors did not pay for policies held by displaced and murdered European Jews.
Nitsana darshan-Leitner is an Israeli human rights advocate and Israeli lawyer. Shurat Hadin is the founder of Shurat HaDin Israel Law Centre. Israel Law Center announced that its initiative, Project Last Chance will pursue insurance firms that used the chaos and Shoah to dodge paying out claims for victims, survivors, or their heirs.
“My goal is to get compensation for victims at the end of their lives. It’s money owed to survivors, it’s their money. When you insure assets such as your house or your life, it’s your money. Nobody has the right to take it.
nitsana darshan leitner stated that US Senate estimates show that about $US200billion was snatched away from Jewish policyholders due to the actions of insurance companies operating during WWII. These companies are often traceable and have successor companies.
Shurat HaDin will use its expertise to investigate banks and financial institutions, like banks that contain terrorist assets.
“We’ve initiated legal proceedings against countries and banks that aid or abette terrorism. We’re experts and are not scared to go after large corporations, countries or banks with huge international reach,” she said.
Shurat HaDin the Shurat HaDin affiliated group, has launched legal processes in Israel to access an inventory of around 140,000 Holocaust survivors’ and descendants. These individuals have listed more than 2 million assets as part of Israel’s Project Heart. https://rocketreach.co/nitsana-darshan-leitner-email_27723742 and the Jewish Agency for Israel jointly invited applicants into the restitution program. The program, however, was abruptly shut down which left the those who participated in the program in limbo.
Shurat HaDin contacted the government and they haven’t received a response. Israel’s Labour and Social Services Ministry declared the following: Project Heart was never meant to be an individual claim program, therefore the claims names of claimants cannot be released. https://oxford.universitypressscholarship.com/view/10.1093/acprof:oso/9780190263577.001.0001/acprof-9780190263577-chapter-8 is that Israel underestimated the intransigence of European governments when faced with lists of hundreds or thousands of applicants.
Darshan Leitner said Darshan Leitner explained that Project Heart participants could be applicants for class actions in Project Last Chance if their identities were made available to Shurat haDin.
She stated that Project Last Chance is taking an approach that is different from the Claims Conference, established in 1951. The Claims Conference has petitioned governments to grant Holocaust compensation, but not attacking companies and companies directly.
